Padre Island is off the coast of Corpus Christi Texas. There are several campsites to visit. We chose to camp on the Malaquite beach. To go to the official website, click here: www.nps.gov/pais/planyourvisit/map1.htm.
The Island has miles and miles of beautiful beaches that are perfect for swimming. At Malaquite beach you can camp for 10 dollars. As we were starting our trip with virtually nothing, we purchased a tent and an outdoor grill for this event, and, of course, some food to barbecue and a cooler to keep it it.
The beach has picnic tables with benches and overheads to give shade. For extra fun, be sure to take some flotation devices. The beach has gentle waves. We did not experience any jellyfish or adverse currents. These dangers are very rare here.
At night you can enjoy watching the many crabs that come out.
The facilities include plenty of showers and toilets.
